IN 2016, AFTER FIVE YEARS OF PRODUCING HER OWN WORK FOR PROFESSIONAL COMPANY, CHRISTINANOEL & THE CREATURE, AND TEACHING DANCE AT SEVERAL PRESTIGIOUS BROOKLYN DANCE SCHOOLS, CHRISTINANOEL REAVES FORMED HER OWN BROOKLYN-BASED CHILDREN’S PERFORMING COMPANY, RANGING IN AGES 5 TO 15.

THE EPHYRAS, WHICH DERIVES ITS NAME FROM THE YOUTHFUL STAGE OF A JELLYFISH LIFECYCLE, IS AN EMPOWERING AND JOYFUL DANCE THEATRE PROGRAM FOR KIDS. THE YOUNG PERFORMERS EXPLORE THEIR OWN IDENTITIES THROUGH MOVEMENT AND VOICE.

DURING WEEKLY REHEARSALS, YOUR CHILD WILL LEARN:

• precise technique from a range of dance styles including ballet, modern, and break dancing

• dance and text improvisation

• movement composition

• vocalization and basic harmony

• self-empowerment through acting

Director ChristinaNoel Reaves integrates these elements into a final performance, accompanied by live and original music. With professional dancers as mentors and collaborators, The Ephyras work to expand ideas of what dance and theatre can be, and much of the material used in performance is created by the kids themselves. In addition to the spring performance, one year with The Ephyras also includes: two professional photo shoots and additional performance opportunities.
