About ChristinaNoel & The Creature

ChristinaNoel & The Creature is a Brooklyn-based dance theater company producing immersive performance pieces. Comprised of dancers, musicians, and visual artists, the hybrid performance medium utilizes the dancers’ voices, bodies, and individual perspectives of the world. The resulting work envelops viewers in multi-textured environments derived from human connections and encounters. The Creature’s mission is to push the boundaries of dance performance and create a space for dialogue and educational outreach.

Driven by Artistic Director & Choreographer, ChristinaNoel Reaves in collaboration with Visual Director & Composer Aeric Meredith-Goujon, The Creature artists are dedicated to the joys of fearless creation and expression; honing their skills and unique style through consistent group training and experimentation in order to expand their collective understanding of dance performance and expression.

Copy That Dance is the misbehaving brainchild of Phoebe Rose Sandford and premiered in 2016. Phoebe has performed with Anne Zuerner, mishiDance, Sarah Foster, Alice Gosti, RedCurrant Collective, Jonathan Matthews, This is Not a Theatre Company, The Charles Weidman Foundation, and Patricia Hoffbauer. Copy That Dance has presented work in All Over Westbeth, Under Exposed at Dixon Place, Your Move Dance Festival, The Craft, Home Audio Series, and at venues including NYU’s Jack Crystal Theater, Triskelion Arts, SMUSH Gallery, The Woods, Beulahland, and Green Space. The company’s short film He even took narly premiered at The Hours Festival in 2017, and they presented their first half-evening-length work, Compliments, at Split Bill at Triskelion Arts in 2019. Performer: Jake Henry
Music: an improvised solo trumpet piece

Trumpet player Jake Henry is an active performer, composer, and improviser on Brooklyn's young jazz and avantgarde scenes.  He was raised in Toronto, Ontario, playing both guitar and trumpet before ultimately switching to the trumpet in 2003. Jake holds a B.Mus. from McGill University in Montreal and an M.A. from the City College of New York CUNY in New York City.  He is a two-time alumnus of Dave Douglas's workshop in Jazz and Creative Music at the Banff Centre for the Performing Arts. Jake has studied primarily with Tony Malaby, John Patitucci, Ralph Alessi, Laurie Frink, Brian Sand, Bill Mahar, Chris McCann, and Lorne Lofsky. Jake performs regularly in New York City and around the USA and Canada with his trios 100 Times Yourself (feat. Adam Hopkins and Flin van Hemmen), Sweet Talk (with Dustin Carlson and Devin Drobka), his duo Du-Ah-Oh! with prepared bass virtuoso Sean Ali, quartet Perfect Friend, and various other ensembles, both improvised and composed. He has performed and recorded with award-winning musicians across many disciplines. His debut album with Sweet Talk, Glitterbomb, was released on Prom Night Records in April 2013. www.jakehenrytrumpet.com

Sarah Foster is an NYC-based performer, dancer, choreographer, and occasional actor and opera singer. She's performed her own work all over the place—from Italy, to Boston, to Jacob's Pillow, to Governors Island and all over the New York area—and has worked with all sorts of fabulous people. Currently, she performs with Amalgamate and is psyched that ChristinaNoel & The Creature has organized this real live performance in a real live place with real live people.
